Lake Sandoval
Lake Sandoval is one of the main attractions of the Tambopata National Reserve. It is also the attraction that receives more tourists due to its scenic beauty and its proximity to the city of Puerto Maldonado (45 min by boat on the Madre de Dios River). It is accessed by a path of about 02 km to a pier where visitors board boats to enter by rowing a small river to Lake Sandoval. During the visit you can observe different species of fauna such as monkeys, macaw clay lick, parrots, alligators, river wolves, different species of birds as well as the impressive diversity of flora that this Natural Protected Area has.
MACAW CLAY LICK "COLLPA CHUNCHO".
The Chuncho Clay Lick is considered the second most important within the Tambopata National Reserve, attracting a considerable amount of birds and mammals, these birds come in search of mineral salts and digestive properties that has the clay. Many species of Parakeets, Parrots and Macaws visit the clay lick daily, such as the Ara Chloroptera (Green-Winged Macaw) and Ara Macaw (Scarlet Macaw), among others.
